Ned informed the hotel licensee Charles Cox that he required a room for a few hours to put the people in as they came along "for I have come here to stick up the Bank today.”

A bit about the town
Jerilderie is known in history as the only place in New South Wales to be visited by the Ned Kelly Gang and is the origin of Ned’s Jerilderie Letter.
Established in 1859, Jerilderie is nestled on the banks of Australia’s longest creek, the Billabong Creek, and is located on the Newell Highway, which is the main inland route linking Melbourne and Brisbane and is on the shortest route from Adelaide to Sydney. It is also the commencement of the Kidman Way, the now completed all-weather road linking the southern states of Australia with the Northern Territory.
Jerilderie has much to offer in country charm and hospitality. Establish yourself and your family in our safe and welcoming community. Take advantage of the lower cost of living, laid-back lifestyle and enjoy quality family time in this unspoiled country location.
The town offers a wide range of services for all ages, including excellent schools, medical facilities, a sporting precinct, shopping center, and magnificent Lake Jerilderie.
The Jerilderie area is responsible for a large contribution to Australia’s fresh produce industry including olives, tomatoes, rice, organic wines, cotton and cereal cropping and has much to offer to facilitate the establishment and success of a wide range of industries.
